The term TCP keepalive is been widely used in networking to describe a mechanism totally different than just "not closing the connection after a request". This documentation is my suggestion to clarify it as much as possible without changing the original variable names, while at the same time adding the description for the real TCP keepalive, which is implemented in PR 3096
